About This Activity

Skills: Jumping from the side; entering the water head first, from sitting and kneeling positions; bobbing to safety; rotary breathing; survival floating; back floating, in deep water; changing positions, from vertical to horizontal on front and back; treading water, with arms and legs; flutter, scissor, and dolphin kicks; front crawl and the elementary back stroke. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Level 2 or be able to: 1) Step into chest-deep water, move into a front float for 5 seconds, roll to back and float for 5 seconds, and return to a vertical position; 2) Move into a back float for 5 seconds, roll to front and recover to a vertical position; 3) Push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to front and continue swimming for 5 body lengths.
