Learn to play banjo the way it has been played in the southern mountains for 200 years. This style is variously called frailing, clawhammer or old-time banjo It is not bluegrass style banjo, but could be used as a basis for learning bluegrass later. We will start by learning a basic rhythm stroke for the right hand and a few chord positions for the left hand. In the following weeks we will add techniques that allow the playing of melodies, along with the rhythm strokes. After completion of this class, the student will likely be ready to advance on their own, learning from listening, from books, and from playing with other musicians. Your instructor is a professional musician and teacher.
