What's Included

For youth in grades 9-12. This 3 week camp experience combines outdoor leadership skills with an exclusive travel camp for our teen leaders. Spend the first week with a host family and participate in PEO's Paddle, Climb, Camp week to get a taste of activities such as outdoor leadership development, hiking, kayaking, climbing, meeting sled dogs and draft horses and more. You'll also have time to see Duluth and explore as a tourist. PEO's residential Outdoor Leadership and Adventure Camp runs from August 1 - August 15, 2015. Starting at the Janette Polly Outdoor Program Center base camp in Duluth, teens will spend a week explore leadership topics while learning how to plan an adventure trip during the first half of the program, choosing the destination(s), activities, menu and itinerary. You'll also volunteer at the Two Harbors Kayak Festival on Saturday, August 8 and help with you activities (climbing and kayaking). During the third week of the program, participants will implement this adventure with the support of PEO’s experienced professional staff. Activities throughout the three week session include team building, hiking, orienteering, kayaking, rock climbing, driving draft horses, swimming, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and more. The camp will also focus on environmental leadership, teaching youth participants the valuable connection between humans the environment, helping them become leaders in the effort to steward our natural resources. Tuition includes all meals, lodging, group and personal camping equipment, group equipment for activities and transportation during the program. Campers will receive a personal equipment list, and personal camping equipment (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, etc.) is available for those who need it. Campers from out of town fly into the Duluth International Airport.

About This Organizer

Positive Energy Outdoors, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit founded in 2004, encourages people and animal powered exploration of the outdoors. Our programs emphasize teamwork, healthy risk taking, and positive communication, creating learning opportunities that can lead to a lifetime of active adventures.

As Duluth's outdoor education center, we help people of all ages and skill levels get outside to enjoy activities from rock climbing to dog sledding. Revenue from our public programs and tours for individuals, couples and families, as well as sampler experiences for large groups of up to 60 participants, allows Positive Energy Outdoors to provide no or low cost outdoor education programs for 500+ low-moderate income youth each year. PEO is proud to receive grant funding from the United Way of Greater Duluth.   Thank you to maurices for their generous sponsorship of our portable climbing wall in 2016.
