Description: The Peace Valley Park Duathlon event will be organized by Scoogie Events, LLC & Life is good, GNS in North Wales, PA and staged on Saturday, May 10th 2014 for the benefit of bringing exposure to beautiful Peace Valley Park while also providing novice and experience multi-sport athletes a race in this area..

The Peace Valley Park Duathlon will consist of two different distance options. The short course will consist of a 2 mile run on the walking path from the race start towards the Peace Valley Nature Center out 1 mile and turn around and head back to transition. This is followed by an 8 mile bike and finishing with the same two mile run.

The long course will consist of a 5k (3.1 mile) run on the walking path from the race start towards the dam out 1.55 miles then return to transition. The first run will then be followed by a 14-mile, two loop bike course around Peace Valley Park, followed by second 5k (3.1 mile) run that will begin at transition and follow same route that the first run followed. After the event there will be light snacks and refreshments in the parking lot up off of New Galena Rd along with an awards ceremony.

Transition Area: There will be an area for the competitors to put their bikes, shoes, helmets, etc., called “the transition area”. After finishing the first run, the athletes will come into the transition area to put on their biking gear, get their bikes and start the bike portion of the race. We supply the bike racks and set up and remove them after the race.

First & Second Run Courses for both distances: The short course will consist of a 2 mile run on the walking path from the race start towards the Peace Valley Nature Center out 1 mile and turn around and head back to transition. The second run for the short course will be the same and will finish at the finish line near the transition.

The first run for the long course of 3.1 miles will start at the start line on the walking path and head out towards the dam continue on 1.55 miles then turn around and head back to transition to get their bikes. The second run for the long course will be the same and will finish at the finish line near the transition.

Bike Course for both distances: The short course athletes will complete only one lap totaling 8 miles of biking. The long course athletes will complete two laps of the same course totaling 16 miles.

The Bike will proceed out of the transition area and turn LEFT onto New Galena Rd. and turn LEFT on Callowhill Rd. They will then turn LEFT onto Creek Rd and continue until they make a RIGHT onto Old Limekiln Rd. They will then bike to the top of the hill and turn around and return back the same way to transition. The short course athletes will tehn enter transition and begin their run. The long course athletes will turn around at the entrance of Sailor’s Point on New Galena Rd  and start the second loop (which will be the same as the first loop). After the second loop the athletes will dismount their bikes just before the transition area, rack their bikes in the transition are and proceed out on the second run.

The total bike distance of the short course will be 8 miles and the total distance for the long course bike portion will be 16 miles. NOTE: There will be local police officers as well as trained race organizers throughout the bike course to ensure the safety of the participants.

General Information: The most important factor will be the safety of the participants. The event will be altered or cancelled if it is deemed that for any reason the event is unsafe for the participants. This event will be insured and therefore liability insurance will be obtained by Michael Snyder covering all towns that the race will go through, Peace Valley Park and any other required party. A waiver of liability will be provided and signed by each participant. We will have an Emergency Medical Vehicle and staff on-hand during the entire event.

Purpose: The purpose of this event is to promote multisport participation in the Youth, Families and Individuals, encouraging physical exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
