Rob Smith's Run for Skyler

Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page. As many of you know,I'm an avid runner.Through my vast racing experience,I came across the Team in Training.Although not personally effected by Leukemia or Lymphoma,I wanted to use my racing to help a good cause. The cause became more personal when my daughter,Skyler, told me about her friend,Skyler. Skyler Badertscher lives in Ketchikan Alaska. Upon being checked out for what seemed to be a simple bad cold,on November 12th 2003,he was diagnosed with High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with T-celland CNS involvement. For the next year,Skyler and one of his parents would live in Seattle at Childrens Hospital and Regional Medical center and the Ronald McDonald house while his younger siblings and other parent remained in Alaska. Skyler was placed on a regimen of chemotherapy and radiation. The side effects of his treatment took his hair and 40% of his body weight. His strength through this is a true inspiration as no matter how sick he felt or how much pain he was in,he never stopped planning his next day. He's now back in Alaska with his family in Ketchikan. He's gained weight, strength, and stamina and is able to enjoy many of the activities of a typical young boy.Now his Doctors appointments and chemo injections are scheduled around school and other activities as opposed to the incarceration of hospitals. The Team in Training, that I'm running with, can be credited with helping such advancements through its tremendous fundraising efforts.Since its inception in 1988,TNT has raised over 600 million for research of Leukemia,Lymphoma, and other blood related cancers. TNT also promotes a healthy lifestyle as it has trained thousands to run marathons and triathalons. I will be running the Vancouver International Marathon should I raise 4900 with your help. I've run many marathons and will be making the extra effort to run a Boston Marathon qualifying time in honor of Skylers strength as a survivor and for all others that fight these diseases on a daily basis.Thank you so much for your help and support and please feel free to forward this to anyone you know that has been effected by these diseases or may have an interest in helping such a great cause. You can either send a check to me made out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or donate online here. Many companys offer a matching corporate gift program so see if yours does or contact me for a list and double the effort!!! I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!Rob Smith 1931 w.Cornelia Chicago IL 60657
