Running to Save Lives

*******WE MADE IT!*******

If you're just stopping by to make a donation (thanks!) you can see to the right that the little man has broken through the finishing ribbon, which means that I've now reached well over my fundraising goal!! BUT you can STILL help another Team in Training participant--MY MOM! Please copy and paste the URL below to help her reach her goal as well so that we can both finish this race--and get to the starting line--together:

Welcome friends and family! Thanks for checking back in! If you're new to my site, I encourage you to read my little ditty about Team in Training (TNT) and why I've decided to do this whole thang!

*************************************************

With the help of friends and family, on October 30th I will be running in the 30th Marine Corps Marathon here in Washington, DC. Along with 30,000 others, I hope to finish the 26.2-mile course, which weaves in and out of the beautiful monuments and extraordinary history of our nation's capital.

As you know, running has been a huge part of my life. As you also may know, I was told I couldn't run anymore after my last knee surgery in 2003. Well, the first has outweighed the second and, with a little smart planning and a lot of careful training, I believe I can do it!

Helping me achieve my goal is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America's Team in Training program. In exchange for a spot in the race and months of professional coaching, I raise money for the Society in order to help those diagnosed with blood cancers.

I'm not sure if you or anyone you know has been affected by these diseases, but it wouldn't be unusual. Just in my area alone, 800 people passed away from blood-related cancers in 2004. Personally, I have felt the effects; my Uncle Ed lost his fight while I was in high school, leaving four young children (including triplets) behind.

These people are the real heroes on our team, and I need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

So, thanks for stopping bye! I also have a web log (blog) with my mom, who is also participating in the program and the event. Here you can read about our training and any other running-induced thoughts we may have. (http://emandchar.blogspot.com)

Thanks so much for your support! -em
