I'm running the 2012 Boston Marathon to raise money on behalf of the American Medical Athletic Association to help with the fight against youth obesity in the U.S.
As you probably know we face an epidemic of obesity in the US, especially among kids. Over 30% of US children between the ages of 6 and 11 are overweight and 15% are obese. The majority of children don't participate in fitness activities outside of school. Sadly, these overweight and unfit children are more likely to remain unhealthy in adulthood and have an increased risk for developing life-threatening medical conditions such as Type II diabetes and heart disease.
Donations made on my behalf will allow the AMAA and the American Running Association (its sister organization) to support their joint "Youth Fitness Programs Campaign." The campaign's central national event is the "National Run A Mile Days" which takkes place the first week in May each year. Training materials and onsite incentives are provided to all participants.
Please consider donating to help support these two non-profit organizations to deter youth obesity through fun and motivating programs.
