Welcome to the Wolf Pack Adventure Racing "Race against Pediatric Eosinophilic Disorders" webpage. Eosinophilic disorders (ED) are immune diseases that result in elevated levels of eosinophils in the blood and tissues, often resulting in severe dietary restrictions and malnutrition. There are many different types of EDs, and though they may affect people of all ages, they are especially debilitating in infants and children. Because infancy and childhood are stages of the most profound growth and development, the malnutrition that can be caused by EDs can be devastating, resulting in growth and development delays that, if not treated, may become permanent.
Although EDs can often be treated effectively when diagnosed, most pediatricians and general practitioners are not well versed on EDs, and misdiagnosis is common. This is why we are racing.
The Cincinnati Center for Eosinophilic Disorders (CCED), a department of Cincinnati Children's, is leading the way for research and treatment of EDs. Our fundraiser is aimed at providing them funds from which educational materials can be produced so that the physicians and researchers at CCED can inform pediatricians and other health care professionals on the proper diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with eosinophilic disorders.
Wolf Pack Adventure Racing will be racing to raise awareness of eosinophilic disorders at several events: adventure races, triathlons and trail runs. Some of the key events will be the Land Between The Lakes 24 hr race, the Infiterra Sports Michigan Expedition 4 day race and the Highland Sky 40 Mile Trail Run.
Please support this cause and the sponsors who are supporting us. With your help, children with eosinophilic disorders can live healthy, happy lives!
