The Wapiyapi Classic is a charity bike ride benefiting Wapiyapi, a Colorado nonprofit organization. The mission of Wapiyapi is to offer a community of hope and support to families affected by childhood cancer. Our free summer camps and family retreats provide a respite for children with cancer and their families.
Our organization was established in 1998 by University of Colorado medical students in order to help children with cancer and their families. As of 2011, our annual summer camps and retreats have served over 1,200 children by offering a safe and nurturing environment to allow these patients and their families the natural freedoms of childhood.
Wapiyapi is piloting several new initiatives designed to support unique niches within the pediatric oncology community. Young Adult Retreats, events for Spanish-speaking families, and a bereavement support program are all new programs this year. We hope that these opportunities will empower families to understand that they do not face their challenges alone.
The top 20 individual fundraisers will have the opportunity to start the ride with Lance Armstrong! An exciting new benefit to the top 10 fundraisers this year will be an invitation to a pre-ride kickoff party hosted by Lance Armstrong and Anna Hansen on the evening before the ride!
Fundraising totals for the determination of top fundraiser prizes will be calculated on Wednesday 9/21 at 11:59PM however, we will continue to accept donations after that time and we encourage participants to keep fundraising for this great cause. The top 20 fundraisers will be listed online no later than 5PM MDT on Thursday 9/22.
