| 5th Annual 'Walk a Mile in My Shoes' 2010 Walkathon |
|
Did you know that the average age of a homeless person in the United States is 9-years old? In fact on any given night there are over 1.2 million children who are homeless and wandering the streets. 1,300 of which are living right here in Oakland County (Macomb Intermediate School District). There is an answer to such a travesty: Grace Centers of Hope.
Grace Centers of Hope Oakland County’s oldest and largest homeless shelter, provides numerous services for homeless children on an annual basis including: food, clothing and shelter, child-care services for infants and toddlers, school enrollment, Children’s Learning Center, mentoring, school uniforms & supplies, tutoring, summer camp at the North Oakland YMCA as well as medical and dental care.
The purpose of this year’s 5th Annual ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’ 2010 Walkathon is to bring awareness to this national crisis while raising $40,000 for our inner city youth to help to end the cycle of poverty and homelessness. Your participation in the 5th Annual ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’ 2010 Walkathon, at the Detroit Zoo, signifies your compassion and commitment to the homeless children at Grace Centers of Hope and grants a brighter future for each child.
