Help Ivan Help Perkins!
We're very excited to let you know about this year’s Vision 5K Run-Walk, a world class 5K championship race to raise awareness for the blind and visually impaired. Team Bobnar has chosen to raise funds this year to benefit the Perkins School for the Blind.
The Perkins School for the Blind, founded in 1832, is the oldest school for the blind in the United States. Their programs today range from infant and toddler outreach to elderly rehabilitation, but all are designed to enhance the life and independence of their students.
Perkins offers support for parents of visually impaired children, sends Teachers of the Visually Impaired out into the community, helps local public schools adapt materials for blind students, and organizes events and programs throughout the year to support and raise awareness for the blind. The staff is amazing and our family owes so much to this school—we're very proud to be fundraising for Perkins.
The Race
The Vision 5K race will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston’s Fenway area. Everyone may participate in the race; there will be blind world class athletes, along with individuals, families and teams both running and walking. Perkins School for the Blind has again joined with The Carroll Center for the Blind, New England Eye Institute, MAB Community Services, and National Braille Press to raise awareness and funds for the visually impaired.
