| Dance Marathon at UCLA is one of the largest student-organized philanthropic events on the West Coast. With educational and fun activities throughout the year, we seek to unite the UCLA campus in the fight against pediatric AIDS. Our work culminates in a 26-hour dance-a-thon where hundreds of dancers acknowledge the battle of children suffering from AIDS by remaining on their feet for the entire duration of the event. All proceeds from Dance Marathon, $665,000 over the past 5 years, have benefited the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. This year we are proud to add Camp Kindle and Camp Heartland as our beneficiaries.
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is the worldwide leader in the fight against pediatric AIDS. Their innovative research programs, collaborative training initiatives, advocacy efforts, and rapidly expanding international programs are bringing dramatic changes to the lives of children worldwide. Dance Marathon at UCLA is proud to welcome Camp Heartland and Camp Kindle as our new beneficiaries for 2007. The camps allow children who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS a refuge- a place where they can go and live a normal childhood, free of the stigma that surrounds HIV/AIDS. These camps fully fund each camper’s participation, ensuring that anyone who wants to attend has that ability. Their commitment to providing outstanding recreation and support services for campers is matched by our responsibility to educate the community about HIV prevention, awareness, and compassion.
