For most of us, February 7th, 2009 was a normal Saturday as we went about that day running errands, attending athletic events with our children and perhaps even working in our yards as part of our weekend routines.
For our dear friend and former Transwestern colleague, Tommy VanZandt, this Saturday was anything but normal.
While cutting tree limbs at his home in Fayetteville, Tommy fell from a ladder and suffered a severe spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed at the current time.
After surgery and a lengthy hospital stay in Fayetteville, he was transferred to Craig Hospital in Denver, CO which specializes in spinal cord injury rehabilitation. His stay is anticipated to be five to six months.
Tommy now faces a long rehabilitation period and the expenses that the family will incur will be substantial. In addition to the uninsured portion of his medical expenses, the family will need to maintain dual households in Fayetteville and in Denver for at least six months. And all of this will be during a time when he is unable to produce for Sage Partners, a Fayetteville-based commercial real estate company that he founded and co-leads.
As a longtime member in the Dallas commercial real estate community and 10-year leader at Transwestern, we know Tommy as a loving husband and father, a strong Christian and loyal friend to all of us, which is why we’re asking for your generous help.
A group of Tommy’s close friends from Dallas and from Arkansas are coming together to create Tommy’s Nite Out, to be held at the AT&T Plaza at Victory Park on June 11th from 7:00 pm ‘til 10:00 pm and featuring exciting live music from three bands (Boys Named Sue, RumbleFish and The 1031’s), great food and much, much more.
Please join Transwestern and all of Tommy’s friends in our efforts to help Tommy and the VanZandt Family through this difficult time.
All of the proceeds raised from Tommy’s Nite Out will go towards The VanZandt Family Trust for Tommy, Robyn, Jack and Ross. To follow Tommy’s progress, please visit: www.friendsoftommyv.blogspot.com.
Please strongly consider making a contribution to this event. Thank you for your kind support and we look forward to celebrating with you at Tommy’s Nite Out!
