Kelly Dreibelbis's Team In Training Page
Racing to Save Lives
Thank you for visiting my Team in Training Web Page! As you can see at the top of my page, I am swimming, cycling, and running my way toward my goal of $4000 dollars!
In order to make a donation:
1) On the left hand side of this page, click on or type in the amount you would like to donate.
2) Hit the "Donate" button and you are now on my team!
3) If donating by cash or check- make check payable to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and send the cash or check to:
Kelly Dreibelbis 116 Arrowhead Drive Apt 33 Slippery Rock, PA 16057
For every dollar donated, 75 cents will go to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for funding research, educational programs, awarness of blod cancers, and provide assistance to families of our HEROES with Leukemina and Lymphoma!
I am running in honor of two HEROES. One of my heroes is Brooke. A 16 year old diagnosed at the age of two with ALL (Acute Lymphocyctic Leukemia). She is now in remission and enjoying life with her friends, swimming, and horseback riding! Without the help of the LLS, the drugs used in her therapy may not have been funded and therefore not available. Every dollar counts!
I just received a new hero who's name is Griffin and is a family friend of a teacher I used to work with. He just turned 3 years old! He was diagnosed in December with T-cell Leukemia (ALL) and is currently undergoing intense chemo therapy in Hershey. He is such a cutie! He loves playing with his older brother, Scooby Do, Cars the Movie, and type of ball that he can play with. He is currently fighting for his life so put him in your prayers!
The Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon at Faimont park will be held on June 22, 2008. Please come out and support me. Each voice or face calling my name will help me cross the finish line even faster...and put a smile on my face (If I can move after the race!)
Keep checking my webpage as I will be udating it throughout my training. Also to see how my fundraising efforts are progressing!
PLEASE spread the word of my cause! Help me compete with myself to see how fast I can reach my goal!
Thank you for your support!
February 3: I am getting geared up! Purchased bike shorts, swim cap and goggles...at least I will somewhat look the part...
February 8, 2008: I swam my first mile today!! Yipee!! It took me about 40 minutes but I did it. I have a hard time counting my laps as I am floundering in the pool but I know for sure this time that I made it! I then rode the bike but only for about 25 minutes because I had to go to work. Tomorrow is my first group spin training at 7:30 AM!! Yup, on a Saturday. A lot of my group trainings are in Pittsburgh about an hour away. I try to get to as many as I can without blowing the budget. I esp. am trying to make the swim training as that is what I need to work on the most. I am not a very bouyant person let me tell ya!
February 24, 2008- It has been a while since I have updated but let me tell you I have been definitely thinking of the page as I have been officially sore for an ENTIRE MONTH! I am doing about two sports a day and it is keeping me busy. I am going to tackle my diet next. I am liking swimming but I need to work on my breathing and upping the distance. I try to do at least 1/2 mile to 3/4 mile everytime I swim, but am going to concentrate on working on my speed...and not sucking in water as I will be in the yucky river!
March 12, 2008: Well I am excited for spring! The days are getting longer, even though the weather hasn't exactly been stellar, I can't wait to get outside and workout. The training is progressing, I attended my swim training on Thursday and beat the other guys that were swimming...not that I am competitive or anything... ;) I did get outside a couple of times lately which makes it easier than running on the treadmill! I love getting emails from everyone because it motivates me to get my booty in gear! I also wanted to let everyone know that if you would like a motivational speaker, I am available for a mere $50 an hour-checks made payable to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society!
March 30: I GOT A BIKE! She is a beauty for sure. I went for a ride today and we are still getting acquainted but after a couple of rides I feel we will be inseparable! I also swam for a mile today, actually over and it felt pretty good as well. I am finally feeling that the training is kicking in and is going well. It is still a little rough on the bike at times but I am making myself get over it. I am really going to start focusing on my fundraising now. Only TWELVE weeks until the race! I am going to try to do a Flashback Friday (80's party) at a local bar. I was inspired on my run the other day, it helped the run go a whole lot faster that is for sure! Stay tuned for more updates!
April 17th: BUGS- It's whats for dinner! Life lessons learned on a late afternoon/early even bike ride...1) I know why people where glasses when biking. 2) Avoid cow/horse/and any other various road apples. 3) KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED!!
FUNDRAISER!! I confirmed my fundraiser for Thursday, May 1st from 8-12:23. The theme is " Search for 'The Cure' " 80's Night. I got T-shirts donated now I just have to get a design for them. I am going to be doing a gas raffle, pirate ticket raffle and a dance competition. The t-shirts are going to be used as prizes for best costumes, and dance moves. I am BUSY trying to make advertisments and get my creative juices flowing but it just doesn't seem to be happening lately. I will get there though. I would like to have the advertisements and things up by mid-week so I have at least a week to advertise. I have been telling all of the college students I know and they seem pretty excited about it so we will see how it goes. Wish me luck!
April 29th: Sicko = STINKO!!!! Yes, I have caught the local bug that has been floating around and I am VERY excited about it...YEAH RIGHT! I have hot and cold flashes (27 is to young for menopause right?) body aches, headaches, runny nose, nasty cough and wheezing. So I actually went to the doctor today which I never do to get it checked out and got some medicine...bronchitis was the diagnosis...STINKO and YUCKO! I have been resting and not pushing it trying th change it up from what I usually do so it doesn't last the typical 2 months...we will see if it works...as of right now, I walk up the steps and I about have to stop half way...olympic distance WHAT???!!!!
April 29th cont... Shopping for 80's clothes - making cold go away.
Pink sweatshirt with neck cut out- 2.99
Leg warmers - .99
Jean Skirt - 3.99
Rocking the Side Pony - PRICELESS!
May 1st...Actually...May 2nd- Reflections on Fundraiser Kelly vs. Penguins Penguins Win! Well the big night is over and the count is is...approximately 340 bucks! It is a lot more than I had before so I am happy with it. We got started late because the Penguin game was over around 10. I really wasn't in charge of the microphone at all which was probably a good thing but my outfit was rocking let me tell you! We didn't end up doing all of the Tri events because we didn't really have time and not a lot of people were into it. We did the flip cup races but that was the extent of it. We did have about 6 teams sign up and the ones who did participate had a really fun time. They were really excited about the t-shirts and I gave one to anybody that dressed up! One thing I did learn is how many awesome friends I have! Specifically the PT American Gladiators- class of 09!! They pretty much saved the fundraiser for me and I probably would have had 10 bucks if not for them. The last 1000 is going to be rough but I will figure it out somehow!
May 27: Superhero or Bust! Just wait until you all see me in my wetsuit...I am giving Cat Woman a run for her money...except she wears heels...and leather...and is about 10 incehs taller than me...at least I can dream! Anyway, I swam for the first time in my wetsuit tonight and it was interesting. I definitely float more but I don't feel like I move as quickly as I should. I swam in the pool and I was ROASTING which may have had something to do with it but I just didn't feel as slick. I was also surprised by how much water spilled out when I took it off! looks like I will probably be wearing swim suit bottoms under the suit. Also, my hands go a little numb when I put it on so I am going to check to see if this is normal or if I have to do something about it. It is kind of fun though because I feel like it is just a big beer coozie that I am swimming in! We will save that for AFTER the race...
I will send out another email closer to the race date once I know more about where I am staying, traveling, and beginning the race. I think she said we will find out sometime in the beginning of June. I hope you will all 'SAVE THE DATE!" as all of my friends want me to do...hehe
June 13: Only about a week to go and I will be heading out! I am planning on doing my last tri simulation this weekend. We swam in a river last week and I was in the lake earlier this week, definitely different from swimming is a nice, clean, clear pool! I am getting more used to my wetsuit and it really does help you float so it is a bonus. I did get a little friction burn on my neck from my wetsuit so I will have to apply some of the body lube stuff for sure...maybe just PAM...yuck! but I guess it works and I will get a nice tan while on the bike... ;) I hope a lot of you can make it next weekend. There is a lot to do in Philly besides my race, it is a nice place to vacation as well, tons of stuff to do, cheese steaks, art museum... bring the family! WISH ME LUCK!
