Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
Jan 14th 2007 - Since I've fully recovered from foot surgery last month, I am training almost every day of the week. Swimming one day, then biking the next, then running the next, and so on. Right now, I'm up to swimming 2000m, biking 45-60 min, & running about 3 miles (5K). I have to admit that I'm really nervous about the running part as many of you know, that's my weakest link.
I must tell everyone, that I have been using the Access Fat Conversion Activity Bars before every workout and I'm amazed that I've been able to go farther, longer with far less muscle fatigue and soreness (especially the following day!)
Well, we're gonna take the 5 kids to the YMCA to get another swim in.
Thank you for your support and donations! Please check back often for updates!
January 24th, 2007 - Well, I have to say a big "Thank You" to my sister Kate who gave me her Cannondale bike for training. It's a great bike for Tod to be able to train with me, but it's way to big for me(Kate is about 6 inches taller than me!). SO - I had to buy a Quintana Roo Kilo Tri bike from the new Trek store here in Cranberry. They were SO helpful and the bike is SWEET! Now if we can only get this weather to cooperate so I can actually get it outside to ride it!!
I'm SO EXCITED to go to the Kick-Off this Saturday and meet my coaches, my teammates, and most of all my Patient Hero - John! I'll let you all know how it goes!!
January 27th 2007 - KICK-OFF WAS AWESOME! Meeting Coaches Eric & Bobby, Mentors Don & Tom, all of my teammates, and especially our patient hero - JOHN - were among the highlights!
I can't wait to start our group training sessions on Thursday! It's going to be a lot of fun! ~Especially knowing that all of you are rooting for us to train hard and complete this event in efforts to raise funds for life-saving research!
Feb.14, 2007 WOW! The group training sessions are AWESOME! Getting to know all of my coaches, mentors, & teammates is so fun and partnering up with the marathon and bike teams is too cool! Everyone is so nice and helpful and are here for such a GREAT CAUSE!
We ran in the snow on the Montour trail (well, OK I ran about 3 1/2 miles and walked some too) and we ran along the Allegheny River trail in Pittsburgh (I ran the whole 5 miles!) and the frozen river was so beautiful! The kids' cousin Sarah came with me that cold morning Bright&Early at 8am - What a TROOPER! - Thanks for coming to train with me Sarah!
April 20th - Continuing to work out with the team and on my own - hard to fit in the workouts with my family & business schedule, but making the most of the training time I have!
May 6th - WOW! Time has flown and I know I can't afford to miss ANY workouts. It's SO nice to get the bike out since the weather has FINALLY cooperated! Gotta Go Train!! SEE YA!
May 10th, 2007 - Today after I dropped Jerry off at preschool, I biked (lots of hills!) to the YMCA, swam for about 40 minutes, then biked back to the preschool to pick him up. The rain stayed away and it felt great! Well, gonna get a good run in tomorrow!
June 2nd, 2007 - The TRI practice at Moraine State Park was too cool! We donned our wetsuits and swam some drills, biked about 9 miles, then ran 3 miles. Besides a little hip pain, it wasn't bad! When I'm hurting I just think that kids like John go thru so much more when undergoing treatment, so that's inspiration for me to KEEP GOING no matter what!
June 19th, 2007 - Well, it's less that one week 'til the big event and we're tapering down our workouts. It's been so great training with Coach Eric Wilson (You Da IRONman!) and the rest of the team. I can't wait to see you all in Philly!
For those that have donated - a BIG Thank You HUG is waiting for you - after I cross the finish line that is!! WAHU!!
