Kerry Makin-Byrd's Team In Training Page
13 miles is no problem!
Hello and welcome!!
I am currently training to run the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco on October 21, 2007. Team in Training is offering support, coaches, and running mentors to help me on my way. In return, I have committed to raising $4250 to aid researchers in their efforts to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, myleoma and other blood cancers. I am assuring you that $.75 of every dollar you donate will assist a family directly affected by blood cancers.
A donation of $4 per a mile (52 dollars total) is suggested but any amount strengthens the fight against blood cancers and helps the families touched by this disease. Thank you so much for your support.
I will update this page each week, listing my mileage and reflecting on the fund raising experience. If you would like to read more about my experience (the ups and down, considering doing the full marathon, and other fun topics!), please visit
MY RUNNING BLOG.
WEEK ONE, May 19: Ran 10.5 miles during the week, ran for 90 minutes on Saturday. I think I can do this.
WEEK TWO, May 26: Ran 14 miles during the week, and seven miles on Saturday. Who knew I could actually run up hills?
WEEK THREE, a little late on June 7: about 12 miles during the week, no running this weekend. But lots of sleep to build muscle!
WEEK FOUR, June 11: 12 miles during the week (over the course of 4 days) - including a short run to the Waffleshop for pancakes and coffee, yum! I was at my 5 year college reunion this weekend so I did my long run with my best friend from college, what a way to make 6 miles fly by!
WEEK FIVE, June 17: No long run this week. I squeeze in runs during a family vacation to Arkansas.
WEEK SIX, June 24: Sick most of week, start to get scared about my gap in my training. Out for a planned run of 8 miles - at 6 miles, I stop.
WEEK SEVEN, June 30: Back to 100% healthy - a solid week of running and looking forward to a good long run tomorrow! Have raised almost $2,000 already, woohooo!
August 13: Where did I go? July has been a busy month. My huge charity yard sale raised $1,100 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. And I ran 9 miles last Saturday, my longest run yet! After working so hard and one final fundraising push, only 8 weeks left until the dream becomes a reality!
