Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Dear Family and Friends, On June 15th, I will be participating in the Tri Latta Triathlon in Huntersville, NC. It is a ½ mile swim, 17 mile bike ride and a 4 mile run. That’s over 20 miles for a reason much more important than the personal challenge of completing a triathlon. Since receiving a bone marrow transplant I’ve been in remission from Leukemia for 16 years and now want to help find a cure for this disease. I will be participating in honor of the families that have lost loved ones to blood related cancers. I’m also competing in this event in honor of all individuals who are currently battling blood cancers. The Team In Training program exists to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. It also looks to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Every year, leukemia and other blood cancers strike some 107,900 Americans, and claim more than 60,500 lives in the United States alone. Leukemia is one of the leading causes of death in children under 20. The good news is that the survival rate for certain childhood cancers has risen from 4% in 1960 to 81% in the last decade. Research through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society not only helps find cures for blood cancers it also can help with finding cures with many other forms of cancers as well. As a member of Team In Training I’ve pledged to raise $10,000 dollars during my 3 months of training. This money will be used by the Society for research, patient services and education. I need your support and NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL. $25 pays the cost of drug prescription co-pay. $50 dollars registers one person to be a bone marrow donor. $75 provides bone marrow typing for a family member. $100 helps with transportation from the cancer center. $500 provides research for finding a cure. I need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
