Racing to Save Lives, Generate Hope, and Find a Cure
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
I am training to participate in the January, 2008 P.F. Chang's Rock-N-Roll Marathon in Phoenix, Arizona as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, but more specifically in honor of my boyfriend John, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma earlier this year. In order to help John and every other victim and survivor of a blood cancer, I need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. I'm determined to make it across that finish line, but I'm not going to be able to do it without a little help! Whatever you have to offer, even if it is an occasional word of encouragement, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your support!
9/19/07: A week of vacation in northern Michigan treated me well. Today I ran 7 miles along the coast of Lake Michigan. Of course, I ran one way and had John drive and pick me up at my destination!
10/8/07: I learned something new about my treadmill today - when it hits triple digits for time or quadruple digits for calories burned, it stops and starts over!! I ran for 120 minutes today, which roughly equated to 1/3 of the marathon I plan to run in just 3 months. I think I can deal with this quirk on my treadmill because it makes me feel pretty damn good that I make it that far.
10/21: Made it 10 1/4 miles tonight - not bad for being on call and up all last night! What's even better is that John will be half done with chemo this week.
10/28: 12 miles today - definitely a new personal record. I went out and bought my geeky fanny pack water belt because I am running out of ways to keep myself hydrated.
11/9: 2 weeks in a row of 14 mile runs - holy crap. Definitely feeling the burn!
12/2: Come rain, snow, sleet, (even December thunder and lightning today!), I will make it to Phoenix. 5 miles yesterday in a snow storm, and 16 today. Almost there...
12/16: Keep in mind, most days are normal 3-5 mile runs...these long things only attack once a week, and this was the test week of 20miles. I did 15 of them outside in the snow, and the last 5 indoors. Now it's time to taper down en route to Phoenix in 1 month!
