Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to Shelly's Team In Training home page.
Dear friends and family:
Vince Lombardi once said, “It’s time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever- the one who recognizes the challenges and does something about it.” This year I’ve chosen to achieve an auspicious goal. I’ve joined Team in Training to participate in an Olympic distance triathlon on June 22, 2008. Now, you may say to yourself, “She has to be f@?*&% crazy!” That may be true, as at one time in my life I was the champion Barfly and couch potato. I have discovered the error in my ways and decided to utilize some of my craziness for a good cause. How long is an Olympic distance? Well it’s not the Ironman, but long enough - 1.5Km swim, 40Km bike, 10Km run; and yes, it’s all done at one time!
Team in Training is a nationwide fundraising program for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The mission of Team in Training is to use these races as a symbol of hope and endurance. As I begin my own personal challenge, I will be reminded of and motivated by the enormous courage and strength of Jesus Vega Ramos, our Milwaukee honored teammate. He’s 13 years old and is currently in remission from leukemia. His hobby is boxing, so as a fellow athlete, I know he will be with me every step of the way… giving me inspiration, discipline and endurance to train for and complete this triathlon.
My personal goal is to raise $4200 for the society. I ask you to please join me in my efforts and contribute to this worthy cause. Whatever amount you are able to donate is appreciated and helps researchers come one step closer to finding a cure for Leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and myeloma. 75% of every dollar contributed goes directly toward patient aid and research. If you want to help, please complete the enclosed pledge form and send your tax- deductible donation today.
Thanks in advance for helping me reach my goal. Your support is truly appreciated.
