Liz Cooke's Marathon Page

I run for fun--and good causes.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I am training to participate in a marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. This organization raises funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

Update: 10/22/07: I totally did it! The marathon was yesterday, and I am just going to tell you that San Francisco has a few hills... It was an amazing first marathon. The support along the way was unbelievable. There were crowds of people cheering us along the way, and groups who lived in different neighborhoods handing out orange slices and bananas, and music, etc. What an experience! People who had never seen me before cheered my name (it was written on the front of my shirt) and encouraged me all the way to the finish line. This was definitely one of the best experiences I have ever had. Thanks to all of you (and there were a lot of you!) who helped get me there. I'm not sure I can fully explain this experience--for that you'll just have to do one yourself. And when you do, I'll support you back.

Thank You.

Update 10/16/07: We are tapering, which means much less running than we have been. We are also supposed to eat a lot this week to "load up" for the run on Sunday. Sunday. That's only 5 days from now... Good thing I know I'm ready! We have been training for months and now, all my body really wants to do is go run this thing. I can't wait to tell you about it when I get back. Thanks for your support--I very literally could not have done this without you.

Update 10/3/07: I feel like I'm doing an NPR or KEXP or PBS or Jerry Lewis telethon... But it's really getting down to the wire now--Please consider supporting me! When I look at the list of all of the people who have already donated to this amazing cause I am so thankful. You guys are doing such an awesome thing, you're doing the real hard work! And seriously...

thanks.

Update 9/29/07: Today was my longest long run before the marathon. It was a pretty great experience. Along the way, the names of the different people we're running for were written on the path. It was pretty moving to see all of the lives that we are touching and the real reason behind this whole event in the first place. And at the finish line we were greeted with cheers and the Rocky theme song... I love this group!

Update 9/20/07: It's been a while since I updated... Sorry about that! I will tell you the honest truth--training is getting tough! It's tough to keep up with each and every run, especially as the long runs get longer and life gets crazier. This past week I was on vacation, and next week I start back to school and also a new job. Keep me motivated by supporting me!!! I'm nearing the fundraising deadline and there's still a long way to go. Thanks to all of you who have already supported me. It really means a lot. As we say out on the trail, Go Team!

Update 8/11/07: My training is halfway done! In 10 weeks I will be standing at the start line, ready to go 26.2 miles. Tonight is my fundraising party--hopefully all goes well and we raise a lot of money for LLS. If you're around, stop by and help me out!

7/7/07: training is going really well and i am constantly amazed by what the human body is capable of doing. thanks for all of your support, friends!
