Racing to Save Lives

Me at the end of the Honolulu Marathon - can you help me recapture that moment of triumph?

Howdy!

FUNDRAISING GOAL ACHIEVED!!!

Thanks for visiting my Team in Training fundraising page! As some as you may know, back in 2005 I participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program where I trained for the Honolulu Marathon. Fundraising for such a worthy cause as well as completing what I had first thought as impossible (a 26.2 mile race!) inspired me to continue in 2006, where I completed the San Diego Rock 'N Roll Marathon with TNT . Thanks to the generosity of all of you, I raised close to $7000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! And now with this season, that number is over $9000. This means the next time I do a season with Team in Training, I'll be sure to exceed the $10000 mark!

This spring I fundraised for Team in Training, and am still currently training for the Vancouver Marathon. Those of you whom I have spoken with recently know what a tumultuous Spring it has been, and alas I know I won't be setting any personal athletic records this year. However, this season sets my personal record for fastest fundraising -- actually being done way in advance of the race certainly takes away some of the stress as I approach my final weeks of training! Thank you all for your generosity! Your generosity has helped:

  • further LLS's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $550.8 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers. LLS also provides financial assistance grants to families that undergo financial hardship.
  • provide psychological support for me during this season as I train for and complete the Vancouver Marathon on May 4, 2008.

By the way, Team in Training promises that at least 75% of all funds raised will go to LLS's cause. And because I feel like I'm getting a huge deal out of this (training for a marathon!), I have donated 25% of my own fundraising goal, making every penny you contribute purely for research! Even though I've hit my fundraising goal, the Society's mission will not be complete until a cure is reached. So if you're so inclined, click on the "Donate Now" button to the left to make a tax-deuctible donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. Pledging a dollar per mile is only $26.20.

I hope you'll visit this site often -- I'll be posting regular updates! Thanks for your support!

Fundraiser #1: "Cooking for a cure!" aprons (ongoing)
Because of cooking-related fundraising events (see Fundraiser #2), I thought it'd be totally cute to have a Team in Training-themed apron.  And since others might like the idea, I'm selling "Cooking for a Cure!" aprons!  The aprons are $25, and are white 24" L x 28" W with utensil pockets, 35% cotton / 65% polyester blend, machine washable, and made in the USA.  Please contact me (florabellee at gmail) if you're interested in purchasing one!

Fundraiser #2: Team Breakfast and Social (1.12.08)
I hosted a Team breakfast and social after one of our long runs around Green Lake. $80 was raised for Team in Training! Thanks!

Fundraiser #3: "Bowling for a cure!" at the Garage (02.09.08)
A teammate and I hosted a bowling fundraiser at Garage Billiards on Capitol Hill. Thanks to the generosity of the Garage and lots of wonderful participants, the two of us raised over $800 for LLS! Thanks everyone!

Fundraiser #4: Charity Poker Tournament (03.01.08)
I hosted a poker tournament with all proceeds going to LLS. Thanks to everyone's generosity, $268 was raised for LLS. Gracias!
