Taking Steps Towards The Cure...
Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting my Team In Training fundraising website. Many of you know that I enjoy running and have participated in a few half marathons....well...it's time for a new challenge! This spring I will be completing for the first time, a Triathlon. And, for good measure, I'm throwing in a half marathon at the Vancouver International Marathon on May 6th. Which incidentally, will be my 5 year anniversary with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I'm completing this event in honour of my friend Darin Gooda. I met Darin in November of 2005 when he came to an info meeting to learn more about TNT. After he signed up to run the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon with us, I was surprised to learn that this seemingly healthy 31 year old guy had leukemia. Darin is one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. To date, he has fundraised over $75,000 to fight cancer including doing the Ride for the Roses 100 mile bike ride in Texas with Lance Armstrong. Darin is currently on a medication called Gleevec - a drug funded by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - and without this drug he might not be alive today. Read more about Darin and his efforts
These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
Thanks for your support! Alicia
