Raising Funds for a Cure!
Welcome to my Team in Training web page. I will be walking in the Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska this June in honor my 5 year old daughter Samantha who was diagnosed with acute lymphomblastic leukemia.
I had heard the worst words that a parent can hear are "Your child has cancer" On March 8, 2004, my wife and I found out just how true that is. Our daughter Samantha was diagnosed with leukemia. She was just 2 years old. For the past three years she has endured countless spinal taps, bone marrow biopsies, finger sticks, surgeries, chemotherapy and to many hospitalizations to count. Samantha is now experiencing a life that is a little bit closer to normal. She is currently off treatment and will be celebrating 3 years in REMISSION this April. She is fighting this battle and winning but this would not be the case if there wasn't a group like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training program is committed to raising money to help fund cancer research. The society invests $36 million in research each year. The research done with this money not only helps in the cure for leukemia's and lymphoma's but also serves as a window to the treatment and cure for all types of cancers. I have committed myself to help in the fight against cancer and the race for a cure.
I am very committed to this cause and determined to see it through to the finish line, but I NEED YOUR help. To be able to participate in this event I will have to raise a miniumn of $5,100 for LLS in honor of my daughter. I know that you are asked to give to numerous charities, but I am urging you to contribute to this charity, this year!
To give you an idea where your money goes......
$150 provides 10 patients access to an informational teleconference about their specific blood cancer disease.
$300 will train 25 peer volunteers who can provide emotional support to newly diagnosed patients.
$400 provides 40 teachers with an educational Pediatric Manual to assist with a child's return to school after cancer treatment.
$500 provides a patient with blood cancer with Patient Aid to support their medical treatment and travel to medical appointments for an entire year.
If you make a donation and want to honor or memorialize a loved one who has or has had a blood related cancer, Email me and I will write their name on my race singlet. Email me by clicking here.
