About Me

Welcome to my Team In Training home page!! I’m so glad you stopped by to check things out. So…bet you’re wondering what this is all about. Well, first off, if you know me, you know that when I decide to do something, I’m rather passionate about it. If you’ve never met me, I’m so glad you’ve taken the time to check my website. The thing you should probably know about me is that I always have a smile on my face and an optimistic attitude. That said, you may have some idea about me, but still be wondering why I decided to become a member of Team In Training. Thanks to several people close to me I’ve always had a desire to help in some way with cancer research and treatment. Several people in my life have instilled the importance of this matter in me, so thanks to them, it’s my turn to step up and help find a cure.

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do. ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

My Goals

I am training to participate in the Rock and Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach on September 2nd as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, and in honor of some people very close to my heart listed below. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

"Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'" ~Peter Maher

My Request

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. No donation is too small. I’m happy to have all the help I can get. The donations that you make go a long way. Over half the money raised goes directly to research and patient services. In 2006, the Society invested $61.6 million to support more than 480 researchers and projects in 15 countries on five continents. I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Or you can check my progress in my training blog by clicking HERE!! Thanks for your support! If you would like to contact me, or if you have someone that has had a type of cancer that you would like to honor please feel free to contact me.

It is possible to fail in many ways...while to succeed is possible only in one way. ~Aristotle

My Inspiration

I would like to say a special Thank You to everyone in my life who has helped me reach this point. First I would like to thank God for giving me the ability to compete in this, to run for those who cannot. Secondly I would like to say thank you to the most amazing and inspirational woman I know. My Grandmother…or as I call her, Baw-Baw. She has always been right there beside me, my role model, my rock, and my encouragement. She has never once had a negative attitude. She always has words of inspiration and constantly amazes me. She has had a huge part in making me who I am today. I don’t think that I would have the courage and strength to do this without her in my life.

I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances. ~Martha Washington

My Memories

In honor of Patricia Wilkerson, who has always been like a second mother to me. In memory of Sally Hendrix, an amazing teacher, artist, and friend. And in loving memory of Matthew Marchuk, who left footprints on our hearts, and left us at the age of 23, far too young.
