Kathryn Fine's Team In Training Page
Put your shoes on and Run it out to save lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to my Team In Training home page. I'm not sure if you know my Dad, Andrew Fine. One of the sage pieces of advice he gave me when I was a child , 'when you have a problem put on your shoes and run it out' has helped cultivate my spirit. Almost every day, I am in the park or next to the ocean, 'working it out' with my 'shoes on'. For me, it's where I can be closest to God. Dad introduced me to running and walking as a way of life for introspection and liberation. I've been doing this since my childhood, sometimes better than others. Recently I have overcome my own obstacles and having the opportunity to distance run has reintroduced me to that child who put on her shoes. Getting from step A to B is not always as easy as it seems. Sometimes the finish line seems impossibly far away. Together as part of a team, knowing you are not alone in a battle, makes whatever conditions manageable. A few years ago my Dad learned that he had non Hodgkin's lymphoma. He took on his illness with the grace of an endurance athlete. He suited up, studied, rested, prayed, got proper nourishment, listened to his doctors, made himself battle ready and determined to do everything that he could humanly do to cross the finish line and beat his horrible prognosis. His story is truly a miracle. He defied the odds. I am so blessed to have him as my friend , mentor and patriarch. The bravery he exhibited while clearly suffering physically from this illness and the joy in living he radiates, is a blueprint for me in how to make each day count. He has endowed me with hope when I myself have been lost along the way. I can not adequately put into words what it means to feel gratitude for another person's life. God knows our hearts and there is a place in mine that beats 'thank you for letting me have my Dad. I need him'. Plain and simple that is it. I am so grateful. With each step I run, I will be expressing my thanks and also my hope that no one will have to lose their loved one to cancer. I know this happy ending isn't true for many others. So I am running this race in order that someone else may have the chance that I have had to know my Dad(my hero) in this most meaningful way. Your contribution will go to fund cancer research. For some it is a race against the clock.
I am training to participate in the Marine Corps Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on TNT are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and other cancers from taking more lives. My wonderful, devoted and very disciplined boyfriend Bill Murray will be running with me as a TNT team mate. He was the one who urged me to put my distance running shoes back on last Fall and even bought me my 1st pair for training along with a watch that has a GPS so I won't get lost. We will be completeing this event together as a tribute to life and our appreciation for our many blessings. I am also running this event in honor of my dear, dear life long friend & God Mother Judy Hudson who is showing how the human spirit is greater than our bodies. She is literally struggling against her cancer each and every day and told me that despite all the pain, it IS worth it. LIFE IS precious even amidst the suffering. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. Please also visit Bill Murray's Website. UPDATE: SO SADLY, My Moon[Godmother] passed away August 13th. Perhaps with the urging of my angels prompted by my new one, Bill proposed to me while running on the Cape Cod Canal not long after. I said , "YES". I am running now for love and for life. Thank you Moonie.
