Team Andy Alaska Half Marathon

Running Down Leukemia for Andy

6/30/2008- I did it!!! I finished the marathon on 6/21 in 3:27:17, and was 55th overall and 11th in my age group. I had a pretty good race and Luetta and the kids saw me at 5 places along the course. I had a pretty good race, even though 2 weeks before the race I had strep throat. I missed qualifying for Boston by 6:18. Thanks for your support. I want to thank you for coming to my website and I would like to enlist your help in saving my son’s life. My goal this season is to raise enough to pay approximately 1/2 of the cost of one of the "Child Life Specialists" who sit with my son during surgeries, when my wife and I can't be there. Feb 6th 2008. Andy had clinic today and his counts are good. They are going to increase his dosage of Vincristine next visit. Since he has been getting it he has been admisistered the same dosage for the last 2 years. During the last ~8 months, Andy has gained about 7 pounds, so there is about 20% more Andy that there used to be, he has also grown about 3 inches in the last year. Feb. 2nd I ran in a race in Huntsville and the kids went to the TNT kick-off party. I completed the 50 miles in 9:40, which is 9 minutes slower than a couple of years ago at the same race. The weather was pretty good and this week I have a knot in my left calf that I am working on relieving. I ran about a mile on Wednesday and a few miles on Thursday in hopes of starting to loosen up the muscles. Kick-off for the summer season is Saturday the 9th, and I will be watching the kids so Luetta can ride with the biking group. Andy will celebrated his 4th birthday, October 4th. Since his diagnosis with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) November 29, 2005, we were not sure if he would make it to his 3rd birthday. In his first 10 months of chemotherapy Andy was fortunate to successfully finish the initial phases of chemotherapy, with his bone marrow showing that the leukemia was in remission after the first 14 days and that he is still in remission. Without the support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for research, the treatments that Andy has received would be much less effective and we might not be celebrating Andy’s birthday with him today. In return for your donation to the L&L Society, I am committing to go through the ordeal of running a Half Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska on June 21st. I am supporting TNT by helping to sign up new team mates and running and your generous donation to my campaign can help me raise money for fighting the disease that nearly killed my son and he will have to deal with for the rest of his life. I would appreciate it if you would donate generously to the Gulf Coast region Team in Training organization through my website link below. My goal is to raise $25,000 by May 15th Andy and Annabelle were in the paper!! http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nb/katy/news/5122234.html Andy and Annabelle are going to participate in a bike ride for kids to benefit the L&L society. A Houston Chronicle reporter interviewed Luetta and Andy about their participation in the ride.
