A Marathon for Meredith
After recovering from an injury, I'm almost back to 100% which can only mean one thing... I'm back at it again!
Over the past 2 years I've done marathons in Alaska & San Diego, as well as a half-marathon in Houston. Now I've got my sights set on the Nike Women's Marathon on October 21, 2007 in San Francisco, CA.
I joined Team in Training 2-1/2 years ago as a way to honor the memory of my friend & brother-in-law, David Mulford, who lost his battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma & died at the age of 40 on April 27, 2001. This year, I have a new reason to run: Meredith Johnson, friend & sister of one of my best friends. In May of 2007, Meredith was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Thankfully, because of all the wonderful research done by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, this cancer shouldn't have a fighting chance & Meredith will live a long & happy life. I will be running this race in her honor.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a wonderful organization & the people I have met through this program are amazing! We have become a family & I feel blessed to know them & to be part of something so special & important. I am more committed than ever to helping the LLS further their mission to find a cure for blood cancers & improve the quality of life of patients & their families. Every penny raised brings us that much closer to knocking out blood cancers for good so that hopefully some day, nobody else will have to suffer the type of loss that I & too many others have experienced.
