Myeloma Miles for Margarita
Suzanne E. Iorio: Partner in Pursuit of the Prize!
Welcome to my Team In Training (TNT) home page. TNT is the world's largest endurance sports training program, and the leading fund-raising campaign of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This year, TNT will train 30,000 people - from novice to seasoned athlete - to run or walk a marathon or half marathon, cycle a century ride or complete an Olympic distance triathlon. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society helps to raise awareness and funds to cure leukemia, lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. I am training to participate in the San Antonio Marathon in Texas on Sunday, November 11, 2007 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor & memory of my dear Mother, Margarita Guerra, and for all individuals who are battling blood cancers. Mom was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in April of 2004. She had her "up" days and her "down" days. We Prayed Until Something Happened (PUSH) in the last stage of her life here on earth. To learn more about Mom and Multiple Myeloma visit these links: Margarita Guerra & Multiple Myeloma Myeloma Miles for Margarita: The Blog I am also honoring my Aunt Herlinda Aleman (Tia Linda) and my dear friend Cleo Longoria, who both are dealing with Breast Cancer in San Antonio (TX) and my Aunt Linda Prudenti (Leukemia) in the Bronx (NY). These people are the real heroes, and we need your support to help accelerate cures and give hope to patients and their families. Although research is responsible for increasing survival rates for these diseases, the battle is far from over. We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
This marathon is also in memory of my very close friend, Priscilla Moke (Renal cell cancer), my cousins, Larry Guerra, Jr. and Roger Casillas (lung cancer), & high school classmate, Shawn Murphy (cancer of an unknown source). Mom finished the race that God had set before her on September 25th, 2006 and now resides in Heaven, where she joined our beloved grandparents, Isabel Banda Guerra & Eugenio Guerra. What an awesome reunion that must have been!
Mom had planned on walking in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2006 Light the Night Walk, but she passed away a few weeks before the event. That year, on Saturday, October 21st, my family, friends, & I walked to commemorate Mom's brave battle against cancer.
Multiple Myeloma is a complex and often misdiagnosed cancer of the bone marrow that attacks and destroys bone. In the United States, there are over 1,000 new cases of Myeloma diagnosed each month. In the past 30 years, there has been a dramatic 400% increase in the incidence of Myeloma. Please make a donation to support my participation in the San Antonio Marathon. By doing so, we will both be helping save lives. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support! Even a little, even less than that, goes a long way! Donate on line via this web-site or mail in your check/money order. Please make checks payable to
