Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page. Recently I decided to make a personal commitment to help find a cure for cancer with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. On April 29, I will challenge myself to complete a ½ marathon at the Country Music Marathon in Nashville, Tennessee! My goal is to raise $3,200 of which 100% is tax deductible. To do this, I need your help!!! Please contribute towards a great cause, one I believe in and am willing to work very hard for your contribution. My heart, mind, and muscles will help me accomplish the physical goal of completing the marathon, but accomplishing my financial goal cannot be done without financial sponsors. I’m very committed to this cause. I lost my only brother, Ed Schexnayder, to cancer last year. Ed was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) and Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January of 2004. He was 29 and his life was just beginning. He and his wife, Maydel just had twins (Alan & Madeline) who were not yet one year old. Being a proud new father of twins and also enrolled at LSU working on his MBA degree, he had a cold that wouldn’t go away, and thought his fatigue was just a culmination of sleep deprivation due to late night feedings and studying. He visited his physician thinking he had a common cold. Instead, after Ed returned home from the doctor’s visit, his doctor called him and asked to return to the hospital for additional testing due to the results of his blood work. He saw a Hematologist/Oncologist that very night and was told that he had cancer. That was the start of the last 14 months of his life. My motivation for participating in TNT is in hope that you never have to watch someone you love go through what I witnessed my brother endure during those 14 months. He fought a brave and steadfast battle to the end. In dealing with Ed’s diagnosis, I’ve never felt so helpless in my life. I would ask him what I could do for him, did he need anything – he would jokingly say “a new body”. Yet, I was powerless to fulfill that request. Although Ed lost his battle with ALL, there are so many others that are still fighting cancer and by participating in the TNT program I can actually DO something to help. More than 670,000 Americans have leukemia, Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. Every five minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every nine minutes, someone dies.... You too can do something to help! If you are able to support me in this mission with a financial donation, please make a check or money order out to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and mail to me at: 802 N Carancahua, Suite 310, Corpus Christi, Texas 78470. You may also donate using a credit card here at my online fundraising website. I would greatly appreciate any donation you can make. If you need additional information, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please help me to honor Ed’s memory. Thank you for helping me to save lives one mile at a time.
