Running for a purpose bigger than myself!
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
Dear Family & Friends:
Hello Everyone! I have made a life changing decision to join the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s training and fundraising program “Team In Training”. Together we are on a mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, myeloma, and other cancers, including breast and lung cancer. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. In recent years there have been great strides in the survivorship rate for blood cancers by funding over 200 select researchers world wide who are developing miracle drugs, such as Gleevec (funded solely by Team in Training participants). Gleevec is a successful alternative to traditional chemotherapy for chronic myelogenous leukemia patients and being positively tested on many other cancers.
On Sunday 21 October 2007, I will challenge myself to run the Nike Women’s Marathon in
I am not doing this for myself…it is for a purpose bigger than myself. In June 2006 my mother, Mary Duckett was diagnosed with Large B-cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. This led to countless tests, chemotherapy sessions, and a stem cell transplant. I am happy to say my mother was declared in remission May 2007. Also, every team has honored heroes; I’m doing this for them and their families…First grader, Sammy Sanchez diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, in remission. Kristen Nelson, mother of 3 diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, in remission. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure
Many of you know that I have been running for the last 10 years, and in that time I have yet to run 26.2 miles in one day. But, I feel in my heart and mind that my muscles will be able to accomplish the physical goal of completing the marathon, but accomplishing my financial goal cannot be done without financial sponsors. Your generous donation is needed to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society’s mission. Because the Society receives no federal funding, patients and their families depend on people like you and me for continued support of these needed programs. You can contribute by check made out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and send to me. Also, you can donate by credit card at
