Lymphoma Survivor Working To Save Lives

Angela feeling healthy and happy!

What Have I Gotten Myself Into!

As a two time cancer survivor, I know first hand how important it is to support those who are trying to find a cure for cancer. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in May 2005 and then with Follicular Lymphoma in May 2007. I am determined to have a healthy and happy May 2008.

I will be participating as a Team In Training Honored Hero in the Capital of Texas Triathlon on May 25th in Austin, Texas. My goal is to raise $5,000.00 to help support cancer research.

My personal hope and wish is for researchers to find an alternative drug that helps to keep lymphoma in remission longer. Unfortunately, I am highly allergic to the current drug being used for this purpose.

Please donate what you can to support not only myself, but the countless others who have been afflicted with cancer.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your prayers, good wishes, and most of all, your support!

Team In Training Kick Off Ceremony

January 26th was a very exciting day. TNT had its official "start of the summer season" Kick Off Ceremony. I was very honored to have been selected as the Honored Hero Mission Speaker. I spoke about why I decided to become involved in TNT and about my personal battle with Lymphoma. You can hear for yourself by watching the attached video. The picture is a bit shaky (my 9 year old was behind the camera) but the sound is pretty good. Update: Still trying to work out the kinks with the video. Apparently it is too long but I cannot figure out how to edit it. Hope to have it up soon.

Training Begins and Heaven Help Me!
  • Jan 31: Had our first swim practice to access technique. Pool was heated but was outdoors. Very cold night. I ended up with "walking pneumonia." Guess my immune system is not quite normal yet.

  • First Cycle: This was a blast! Who would have thought that being on a bike for 21 miles could be so much fun. Of course, my legs felt like limp noodles afterwards and I couldn't have walked, let alone ran, but it was a good positive start.

  • A Small Setback: Had a fairly serious allergic reaction to a drug and had to be hospitalized for four days. Am feeling better but not able to train for a while.

  • PET SCAN IS CLEAR! Had my second three-month scan on Feb 20th and the lymphoma is still in remission. I am so very happy. My oncologist has agreed to let me try the chemo Rituxam again. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as this is the one I reacted to the first time around.

  • March 3rd: Had chemo today. All went well and I feel okay so far. Won't be able to train for a few days but I will soon be back at it. Thanks to all of you who have called, written, and prayed for me over this trying time.
