Racing to Save Lives

I put the tri in triathlon :)

**This event has passed, but feel free to continue donating. Also, come cheer for me in my second triathlon, a half-Ironman called Big Kahuna, in Santa Cruz on September 10th. That's 1.2 miles, 56 miles, and 13.1 miles. Yeah. I've truly lost it this time.**

On June 11, 2006, I will swim 1.5 km., cycle 40 km. and run 10 km. in the King’s Trail Olympic Distance Triathlon to help find a cure for cancer. (Yep, that's about a mile, 25 miles, and 6 miles.)

On January 28 I began my very first season with the Leukemia & Lymphoma's Society's Team in Training. This organization provides professional coaching, incredible friend-making opportunities, and much-needed moral support so that participants can complete the event of their choice, from walks to bike rides to marathons to triathlons. All we have to do in exchange is raise money for the cause.

Why not train on my own? That’s an easy question to answer. First, as I mentioned, professional coaches are available to get me in triathlon shape the right way. However, more importantly, by raising money with Team In Training, I am giving back to the community and helping rid the world of blood cancers.

Where does the money go and who does it help?

How Leukemia and Lymphoma research is benefiting other forms of cancer and AIDS

I am completing this triathlon in honor of everyone who is battling blood cancer, including several very important people: my honorees. These are the real heroes of our endeavor. Some of our honored patients have lost their battle with cancer. However, many are still fighting – and winning! I invite you to visit my honoree page - learn who they are and why they are so special.

  • Leukemia and lymphoma patients have a much better chance of survival thanks to care and research funded by generous donations from people like you. For example, the death rate for childhood leukemias has declined by 62% over the last thirty years. But we still have a long way to go.
  • An estimated 106,000 Americans will be diagnosed this year with either leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma, all cancers of the blood-forming cells. Another 57,500 people will die of one of these diseases.

If you know someone who has lost their battle with cancer, or someone who is still fighting or in remission, please give me the honor of racing in their honor or memory.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. My fundraising goal, as you can see, is a lofty $10,000. Please send this URL to anyone you know who has been touched by cancer in some way or would be interested in helping our cause. Nearly everyone’s life has been touched by cancer in some way; help me to fund research to find a cure so that no other families will have to suffer.

We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Be sure to visit my website often to read my journal, see training photos, and keep track of my progress towards my goal!

Thanks so much for your help and support!
