I would be honored to run in memory of your loved one or in honor of a cancer survivor. If you would like me to add their name to my jersey please email me at stacey_rader@yahoo.com
This April, I lost a dear friend to cancer and I decided that I wanted to honor his life and battle with cancer by raising money for cancer research. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society raises millions of dollars every year to support cutting edge research for cancer therapies and to provide financial support to the patients and their families during that difficult time. I was fortunate enough to help raise money with them in 2005 and could not think of a better organization to help me honor my friend now.
In 2005, I joined with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training to train for and compete in my first triathlon. I was successful in making the transition from complete couch potato to triathlete in four short months. I swam 0.93 mile, biked 24.6 miles, and ran 6.2 miles. All in a row! No naps in between!
This time I have decided to run a marathon! Yessiree, you read that right, a marathon! 26.2 miles all running. To be honest, I will be thrilled to not have to swim first, but that is still a LONG way and is still a big commitment. I also want to raise $100 for each mile that I run($2620 for the non-math types) Now, I know that a few years ago I would gladly have paid someone $100 to run a mile for me and I am hoping that some of you feel the same way.
I am training for the Nike Women's Marathon on October 21, 2007. I have had "marathon" on my list of things to do before I turn 40 but, I honestly never thought I would do it.
Now, when you think "marathoner", you probably don't immediately think of me, but the Team in Training staff are miracle workers and I know I will be ready to tear up the streets of San Francisco on October 21st.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
All donation amounts are greatly appreciated and will benefit cancer patients and their families. I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thank you for your support!!
