Update!

OK, everyone, this is it! I have 8 days until race day (Aug 24th), and am getting really excited! And, of course, really nervous. :-P I know I can do it, and feel like my training has gone very well. But, there are still the nerves, and still all the "what if?"s. No time to worry about that, though, as I've got a race to prep for!

If you were considering making a donation, now is the time. It would be great to make my goal by event day, so make a commitment to send in that donation this week, if you haven't already! My website will stay up for another few weeks after my event, so if you're waiting to make sure I actually go through with it (vs. sitting in a hockey arena in Canada drinking Kanuck beer...), you may do so after the fact. But, don't delay too long!

I mentioned the "nerves" above, which are very real. Thankfully, I'm doing this for a cause much bigger than myself, so I have lots of inspiration to carry me through the miles, if & when my legs aren't enough. :) My mom has been symptom-free for over a year (almost two, actually!), and I hear more success stories of leukemia treatments all the time. Unfortunately, there is still no cure, so all the stories I hear about people struggling to fight cancer, or to make payments for medical treatments resound in my ears as well. That's great motivation to keep going, and to keep asking you to support this cause.

Now... to all my family, friends, coworkers, etc. who have left me voice mails that have gone unanswered, or written e-mails to which there's been no response, I apologize. The quiet on my end will hopefully disappear after this event. I've been getting up at 5am to make my trainings happen, and often don't go to bed until 11 or 12. That's nothing for you parents, I know, but it's a pretty long day for me. ;) So, forgive my absence, but know that I'm thinking of you all and sending lots of love constantly.

Wish me luck! :)

Welcome to my Team In Training home page! For many of you, welcome back! I have started my newest adventure in the quest to find a cure for cancer by signing up for an Ironman!

Update! We just got done with a "practice weekend" at Lake San Antonio--the site for the Wildflower Triathlon. We did the entire long course (1/2 Ironman distance) on Saturday, in 90-degree heat! It was a challenging day, but it was excellent training, and I came through unscathed. ;-) I feel very confident about my training, and am looking forward to the actual Wildflower event on May 3rd! I'm also confident about my fundraising, but could still use your support. Please read below for more of the story, but I'm hoping to raise $10,000 this year, and you can help! Every bit makes a huge difference, so even if you put $1 towards my lofty goal, know that it will go directly to funding research that saves lives. You could also donate $1 for every mile of my Ironman... $140.60! Too much? 140 cents would help, too. :-) Thanks for your support!

I have wanted to do this for years, and will finally see it through when I complete Ironman Canada in August of 2008. It's not too far off now! I've definitely needed the last few months of training, so expertly provided by my Coaches, and it's time to convince you to help me meet my fundraising goal!

As may be evident by my purple and green splashed website, I am training for Ironman Canada as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's Disease, and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of my mom, and for all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please consider a donation to support my mission of curing cancer. You have some time to ponder it, but I'm hoping to reach the $10,000 mark by June of 2008! My mom is a cancer survivor because of a cancer therapy whose development was funded by The Leukema & Lymphoma Society. I am grateful for her successful battle thus far, but never want another patient or family to have to face a cancer diagnosis. The money I raise will help accomplish that goal! So, as you move into and through the holiday season and consider your charitable contriburtions, please consider this one. Turn your money into a tax deductible donation that you can "purchase" right here on my website (check out the left side of the page). It will make you feel great! :)

I hope you'll visit my website often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress; I'll update the site with my mom's status and my training accomplishments. Thank you for your support!
