Racing to Save Lives

August 2005: Dynelle, Sameen and I after our first ocean, open water swim. It was cold, scary and hard, but overall not as bad as we thought it would be.

I will be keeping track of the total distances for each sport since June when I started training with Team in Training:

TOTALS as of August 27, 2005:

Swimming: 25,860 yards (15.7 miles)

Running: 85.8 miles

Cycling: 296.5 miles

UPDATE!! I have decided to do the Olympic Distance triathlon at Pacific Grove. This means that I will be swimming 0.93 mile (in the Ocean!), biking 25 miles, and running 6.2 miles on September 10th.

I have the privilege of running in honor of the following people that have either survived or lost their lives to cancer:

Gary Bowen: Cancer survivor

JoEllen Smith: Cancer survivor

Richard Supan: Cancer survivor

In memory of: Norma Mogilefsky

In memory of: Nola Broyles

In memory of: Joesph Rivas aka "Red"

If you would like me to add your loved one's name to my jersey and have me race in honor of them, feel free to email me at stacey_rader@yahoo.com

No, I have not gone mad!!

I have just embarked on one of the biggest and most important challenges of my life. I have joined with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Team in Training to train for and compete in my first triathlon.

I am training for the Pacific Grove Triathlon on September 10, 2005. I have had "triathlon" on my list of things to do before I turn 40 but, I honestly never thought I would do it.

Now, I know you all are thinking, "Stacey, she's a nice gal and all, but a triathlon?" Don't worry! Team in Training is an amazing organization that is committed to helping me go from couch potato to triathlete in four months.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma society's Team In Training is raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. There are millions of people that silently suffer with these diseases. With Team in Training I have met many of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's honorees. The honorees are team members that are either currently battling one of these diseases or are in remission from one of the blood borne cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team! I was so impressed and inspired by their stories that I decided that I wanted to help in any small way that I could and I'm completing this triathlon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thank you for your support!!
