Andrea Becker's Team In Training Page
Racing with remembrance and hope for the future!
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!!!
I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of my uncle,Tom Odum who died of leukemia, my mother, Ursula Becker, who died of cancer and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. I have begun my training schedule to prepare for two half-marathon events. The first event is the Flying Pig Half Marathon in Cincinnati in May'07, and the second is the Mayor's Marathon in Alaska in June '07. These will be the first endurance events I have ever done! The training has been quite a challenge dealing with shin splints and just plain PAIN! I am determined to do this though. The pain I am experiencing cannot compare to the pain of those who live with cancer on a daily basis. Besides, I have a couple of angels looking out for me! How lucky can one person be?
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
Update 2-2-07: Yeah! Shins are getting better. Our weekly walking mileage has now increased to 5 miles on Saturdays. It feels greaat to be able to complete 5 miles with no significant pain. Our TNT group has grown even larger with new recruits that just recently signed on. The people I have met here are great! Without their encouragement, I don't think I would have made it this far. On Sunday, I'm headed out to the Bahamas for a week vacation. I'm packing my walking shoes though - no slacking! It will be quite a change - going from 20 to 80 degrees! I hope to come back relaxed, recharged and ready to go.
