Racing to Save Lives
Hello. Thanks for taking the time to visit my Team In Training home page.
This time last year, I was going through what I hope many people will live their lives without ever knowing. In a period of ten months, I visited the hospital eight times. Between emergency room visits, hospital stays, and multiple surgeries, I sometimes thought that this hospital world was the only one I was going to ever know again. I have been lucky enough not to have been diagnosed with a blood disease, but starting five years ago, I was diagnosed with another damaging disease, and I quickly became intimate with the meaning of having a disease that has no cure, learned to hope that maybe one of the treatments that were being 'tried' would save the day,and I learned to endure an inexplicable amount of pain as my life became a merry-go-round of surgery and recovery. 2006, unfortunately, was when my disease became its worst. This past December, however, I had my most recent surgery, and all signs seem to indicate that my body has found its 'remission', and every day brings new hope and strength. I am taking a leap of faith that life, and my disease, have taken a turn, and that I've left that hospital world behind me. But, the sad reality is that there are others out there who have yet to be able to say the same. That's where Team in Training comes in.
I am training to participate in the Walt Disney World Half Marathon run scheduled this coming January of 2008 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. Team In Training is an organization that raises funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from keeping individuals locked into that merry-go-round. I'm working to complete this event in order to honor the past I've endured as well as honor all the individuals who are battling blood cancers, like my goddaughter did several years ago, and my grandmother who unfortunately recently lost that battle. Chances are there is an individual in your life that you know that has to stand up and fight. These people are the real heroes as they know what it is to keep hope alive every day and move forward, one step at a time. But, they can't do it alone, and neither can I. We need your support. Here's a great opportunity to contribute to a great organization with a tax-deductible donation to get these individuals one step closer to the ultimate finish line - a cure! Even the smallest contribution is one more step forward. :)
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Please feel free to share this site with others. I welcome you to check back any time to see my progress. Thanks for your support! Take care of yourself always...Sincerely, Jennie
