Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

January 23, 2006

Dear Family & Friends,

I hope this letter finds everyone healthy and enjoying life! I have joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training and will be participating in a 100 mile bike ride around Lake Tahoe on June 4th.

I am participating in honor of my cousin John who was diagnosed with Hodkin’s lymphoma last year. John has always been special to me because of his sense of humor, positive spirit and creative edge. As a child, I always looked forward to our family visits because John would make up the most imaginative games. He also was a great storyteller, he kept us all on the edge of our seats! Mike & I still love going to Maryland to see John and his wife Ronda because they are so warm, funny and down to earth.

Thankfully, John is in remission. It was a long trip down the road to recovery. He had to fight this disease with Chemotherapy every other week. Sometimes his treatments were delayed because his blood counts were too low. Imagine the physical and emotional toll this experience has on all that endure it.

As I begin my 4 months of training and fund raising, I will honor the brave people who have fought this disease and all the side effects that come with the battle. It is heartbreaking to me that leukemia is the number one disease killer in children. Thanks in part to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society the survival rate for the most common form of childhood leukemia has improved from 4 percent in 1980 to 80 percent today.

Please join me in the fight by donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. My Goal is to raise a minimum of $4,200. Although my 100 mile race around Lake Tahoe is no comparison to the battles that patients fighting the disease must face, I feel it brings us one step closer to the final goal….finding a cure! Please don’t delay and join in the fight today!

Lots of Love,

Dee
