In January 2008 I completed my first-ever marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. Linda Martinez and Lissette Zamora, founders of the Reason to Run 5K at Deering Estate, helped me train and finish that first of FOUR full marathons as a TNT participant, mentor and team captain!
I ran, jogged and walked exactly 26.2 miles in the PF Chang's Rock 'N' Roll Marathon, held Sunday morning, January 14, 2008 in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe, Arizona. On October 16, 2011 I completed 42.2km in Toronto, my FOURTH marathon with TNT.
I participated in honor of my grandfather George Jacobson, who died of leukemia in 1988. I was also inspired by Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, who successfully returned to baseball this summer after a year of chemotherapy to treat Hodgkins' lymphoma and was the winning pitcher in Game Four of the 2007 World Series.
