My 3rd marathon!!
I am training to walk a 26.2 mile marathon in January, in Phoenix! Is Bettina nuts? Why would I do this you might ask? Two reasons: To do something that is bigger than myself and to commit to being more fit. I grew up with 3 wild and crazy brothers until I was 15 when the sister (Marisa) I had prayed for, for many years was finally born. What a joy it was to finally have a sister! (Babysitting aside) Some years ago my only sister a beautiful, happy 12 year old girl was diagnosed with leukemia. What ensued was a painful nightmare for my sister and family. I will never forget my family huddled together weeping at the hospital as my sister spent what was to be the first of countless days and nights there. In the 2 and a 1/2 years to come we met many beautiful small children who would eventually succumb to this disease. My sister, thank God survived. My father calls my sister “his miracle” as God saved her life after over 2 years of chemotherapy. The doctors said she probably would not have children but she now has her own lovely daughter Morgan. Another miracle blessing! I am training to participate in this national endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
