Six Degrees of Seperation - How many "steps" are you from knowing someone with cancer?

GOTEAM!!

Thank you for visiting my Team-In-Training web page.

On October 28, 2007 I will compete in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

I will compete this marathon in honor of Chris Crown. Chris is my "honor" teammate. He is a retired Marine and cancer survivor.

How many "steps" are we away from knowing a person with cancer? Six degrees of seperation.

Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that, if a person is one "step" away from each person he or she knows and two "steps" away from each person who is known by one of the people he or she knows, then everyone is no more than six "steps" away from each person on Earth.

Everyone knows someone with cancer.

Every 5 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer.

Every 10 minutes someone loses the fights.

You CAN make a difference, donate today and help find a cure!

This marathon is for your parent, your sibling, your friend, your co-worker, your child, your spouse - that has been diagnosed with cancer.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

Every dollar is one step closer to my goal. A donation in any amount $100, $50, $25 or less is greatly appreciated. Or if you prefer to sponsor by the mile, here is a chart to help you calculate: (Remember I will be completing a marathon, 26.2 total miles)

$6/mile = $157.20

$5/mile = $131.00

$4/mile = $104.80

$3/mile = $78.60

$2/mile = $52.40

$1/mile = $26.20

Here is a little incentive, for every $26.20 that you donate your name will be entered into a drawing to win one roundtrip ticket on Southwest Airlines. This ticket may be used as one roundtrip, or two one-way tickets for anywhere Southwest Airlines flies from your departure city. I will have the drawing for the ticket on August 2, 2007 so I will need your donation before that date. As many of your know, I travel quite a bit and the perk is that I receive frequent flyer miles.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress.

Thanks for your support!

Here is Chris' story...

Chris Crown was diagnosed on October 27, 2003 at the age of 22 with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. His cancer started in the lymph nodes in his neck and spread into his bloodstream. At the time of his diagnosis, Chris was a Marine serving our country in Iraq. He was immediately sent home where he was placed on an aggressive protocol of chemotherapy and radiation. The pain and suffering he endured would break your heart. The chemotherapy and radiation ruined Chris’s teeth and at the age of 26 he needed to have a full set of dentures.

Chris continues his yearly check-ups as he will for the rest of his life. Chris survived, but unfortunately many of his friends from the hospital did not. Chris is an inspiration to many people, young and old. More than anything else, Chris’ passion is to help others in need --- even if they only need a little assistance. Chris’ favorite quote: “Prepare for the worst and hope for the best”
