Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to our Team In Training home page!!

Training is going well. Thank goodness the weather is getting a little warmer! Last Saturday we ran with the team at the Air Force Academy, and it was 22 degrees with a headwind that froze the teeth!

Donations are starting to come in now. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to send a check or to donate here on our website. With your help, we can reach our goal of $4000 in the next couple of months.

The most frequently asked question we get is: How many miles are you running now? A: We’re not sure, because our training schedule is based on time, not distance. This past week, we ran four days, for 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 90 minutes and 20 minutes. Next week we’ll add ten minutes to those times, and so forth, until we are running for hours at a time and getting used to it. (At least that’s how it works in theory, folks! We’ll let you know how the reality goes for us). That’s the beauty of participating in the Team in Training program. We have a coach, a training schedule, a team captain, a mentor, several contacts at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Denver, and all the support we could ask for. All we have to do is run!

It’s amazing how many people have shared stories with us since we started this project about how leukemia or lymphoma has touched their lives. One friend’s dad died of leukemia, another’s best friend in college had lymphoma, yet another has a friend whose four-year-old daughter has leukemia and is in chemotherapy now. We are grateful to those of you who have told us your stories, because this has become real to us in a whole new way, and serves as our inspiration to get out there and run, do the job and help fund research to FIND A CURE. So when it’s cold, or early, or yes—when we just don’t feel like running, we get out there and do it—for the team, for those who are fighting these diseases, and for those who have died from them.
