Karen Zaks's Team In Training Page
Racing to Save Lives
Hi Everyone,
By now, you all know I am training to run in P.F.Chang's half marathon in Arizona in January. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a non-profit organization that raises money to help fund research for blood cancers and support families and patients while under going treatment. It is a fabulous group. I became aware of the Team in Training program through my friend Jen who participated in a race this fall. We both wanted to do this to honor the memory of our teacher, Dr. Duane Lassen, who passed away earlier this year after a long fight with multiple myeloma. Every team also has a team hero. My team hero is Samantha. She was diagnosed with cancer when she was 2 years old. She is now almost 5 years post treatment. In January 2008, she will be classified as a long term survivor. With the on-going work of the LLS, we hope that many more people hit with blood cancers will be survivors like Samantha.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
Sept 30 - 1 hour run. Felt great. Knees didn't even hurt.
Oct 14 - 1hr 10min in the rain. Which was actually fun.
Nov 17 - a little set-back. Some IT trouble with my knee but will work through this...
