Racing to Save Lives
January 17, 2008
Dear Family and Friends,
I have always had a personal goal to finish a triathlon. I decided this is the year I would accomplish this goal and have chosen The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s - Team in Training program to help me finish Wildflower Triathlon, May 3, 2008. After experiencing a young friend suffer with cancer, I am also pursuing a second goal, which is to help the find a cure for blood cancers.
In return for the expert triathlon coaching and training I will receive, I have committed myself to raising $3100 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through their Team and Training Program.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to curing Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and Myeloma, and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. It is estimated that Leukemia will strike over 100,000 Americans this year. Leukemia is the number one disease killer of children and alarmingly affects 10 times as many adults.
My team is called the OC Coast Tri Team. Every team in Team in Training has an honored teammate who is battling a blood cancer. I have chosen to participate in Robbie Shinn’s memory. I met Robbie Shinn and his family at my home church Bethany Bible Fellowship in Westminster. After receiving and recovering from two heart transplants, Robbie Shinn was diagnosed with Lymphoma in June of 2007. In November of the same year Robbie lost his battle with Lymphoma and went to be with the Lord. I am honored to participate in his memory.
Now, I know many of you are thinking that I have lost my mind. And, yes, training for this triathlon in Paso Robles at Lake San Antonio, California will be a challenge. However, my challenge is nothing compared to the challenge that those afflicted with Leukemia or any type of cancer face on a daily basis. Please join me in this fight by contributing to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by completing the enclosed donor form and sending your tax deductible contribution by April 15, 2008. You may also make a donation and see my progress at my fundraising website http://www.active.com/donate/tntors/
I really appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.
You can catch me running the Santa Ana River trail, biking PCH, or swimming the coast for the next several months.
Sincerely,
Dayle Hendrickson
