Racing for Malcolm
Welcome!
Lee and I are training to participate in the October 14, 2007 Long Beach, California Marathon/Half Marathon as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. We are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. We're completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, but ESPECIALLY in honor of our five year old nephew, Malcolm. He was diagnosed last year with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood cancer. After four months of intense chemotherapy, Malcolm attained initial complete remssion, which means his blood showed no more evidence of cancer cells. However, this type of cancer hides in children, so he will continue moderate chemotherapy until June 2009---this constant chemo will greatly lessen any chance of relapse. At present he is able to maintain a relatively normal lifestyle as he continues his treatment. About 80 % of children can be cured. Patients who remain leukemia-free for 10 years or more are considered cured. MALCOLM IS THE REAL HERO ON OUR TEAM, AND WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO CROSS THE ULTIMATE FINISH LINE -- A CURE! The marathon/half marathon we are attempting will be tough, as well as the trainings, but NOWHERE near as tough as the doctors' visits, months of chemotherapy and endless pokings, proddings and fatigue that Malcolm has endured.
Please make a donation to support our participation and help advance the Society's mission. Be sure to check back frequently to see our progress! Thanks for your support. Elizabeth and Lee
