Tam Driscoll Ran For A Reason & Finished But The Race Is Still On!
Six months of training & fundraising have come to a close. Lots of miles (covered roughly the distance from Portland to San Francisco), lots of sweat (yes, it does sting the eyes) and a few tears (who wouldn't cry having to run for hours :) THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Feel good about what YOU have done!
There are so many reasons why I do this. Some are personal such as my sister Nancy's diagnosis of a life threatening Non-Hodgkins lymphoma that rocked our world but had a happy ending all things considered. Other reasons are that we do make a difference! Here's proof: Leukemia accounts for over 30% of all childhood cancers. Yet despite this gloomy figure, great strides have been made in childhood cancer medicine. Death rates for children under 15 with leukemia have declined 70% over the past thirty years! I believe that my sister is alive today because of the advances made in treating cancer patients. More success = more survivors! What's equally amazing is that success would not have been possible without indivduals like you that contribute to support the continued research. All of us working together are very powerful in this fight. That is why I am doing this as the fight is not over.
Money raised through our efforts help fund the monumental task of preventing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. Since Team in Trainings inception in 1988, more than 320,000 participants have raised over $750 million to support the Society's research and patient services programs proving that every dollar counts, making a difference in the lives of over three-quarters of a million Americans living with blood cancers!
Even though the big race in hilly San Francisco is behind me, my fundraising efforts will continue. Please do whatever you can to support me and bring hope to the people that need it most. By working together, one day soon a doctor will tell a parent,
"Your child has leukemia. But it's okay, we can cure it!"
Many heartfelt thanks! Tam
