Rhiannon's Team In Training Page
Racing to Save Lives
It’s happened. I’ve totally gone off my rocker. I’ve decided to run my first 1/2 marathon! Do you know how many miles that is? 13.1 !!!
The big day is June 3, 2007 in San Diego, California. I’ll be participating in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Half Marathon. There are many reasons while I’ll be running in this endurance event. Perhaps the most important reason is an organization called Team in Training. This program helps athletes accomplish their goals while helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Ha! Athletes – that includes ME. Have you ever heard anything funnier in your life? Me neither.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I need your help, and here’s why:
• In 2007, an estimated 115,000 Americans will be diagnosed with Leukemia or one of its related blood cancers.
• Leukemia is the #1 Killer of Children, yet, it kills 10 times as many adults.
• Since 1954, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has funded over $358 million in research targeting blood cancers.
And, do you know something:
• In 2001, Gleevec, the first drug to turn off the signal of a protein known to cause cancer was developed right here in Portland, Oregon at OHSU. This drug was developed with help from a grant from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
My goal is to raise $3500 and I can’t do it alone. 75% of the funds I raise up to this amount will go directly to research. When I reach my goal, 100% of the additional money raised will fund research.
I appreciate your help in helping me achieve my goal of 13.1 miles!!Please be sure to check back here for updates on my training!
Cheers,Rhiannon
