Walking to Save Lives

Grandma Jean and me!

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I am training to walk the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon on June 3, 2007 to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! I am participating in memory of my grandma, Jean Philan. She is my motivation and inspiration, since she always gave to those in need. Now we need to find a cure for blood cancers, and you can help!

You can make 2007 a year to remember without even leaving your house. All you need to do is support my efforts and make a donation. The money goes directly to the Society to do much needed research. The mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This mission cannot be achieved without your generous support.

Please join my team and make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. If you have any questions, please email me at ellyfunt@aol.com.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

June 3, 2007 was the day of the event. I had a great time and it was very inspirational. Over 4000 Team in Training participants ran or walked at the marathon! I ended up completing 18 miles in just over 5 hours. I know that grandma would be very proud of me and it was an amazing experience. Thanks for all of the support and encouragment from everyone!

On Sunday, April 15th, I participated in the Race for the Roses half marathon (13.1 miles) in Portland. It was great to train at an actual event. I finished in 3 hours and 40 minutes, which is about 16.5 minutes per mile. When I first started training, I was walking about 19.5 minutes per mile. This program has really helped me improve my speed and endurance. My thanks to all who have donated so far in memory of Grandma.
