Join the Team - Together We Can Make a Difference & Save Lives
Join Norm Rice on America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride - Over 100 Miles - June 1, 2008
Many years ago, while working as a Chaplain at Good Sam Hospital in Portland, I met a young college student who was undergoing chemotherapy for Leukemia. Jason's positive attitude, his determination to live life to his fullest each day, and his conviction that every day was another opportunity, left a lasting impact. Each day I visited him I wished and hoped more could be done for Jason. Today more is being done - thanks to contributors and people like you.
In 2007 a friend suggested I consider training for an incredible experience and join him and hundreds of others fight Leukemia with Team in Training and an unthinkable hundred mile plus ride around Lake Tahoe. For those that know me you immediatly realize that some serious training would be necessary for me to even get 10 miles, let alone 100! But, with some determination, and the memory of Jason's positive attitude and determination, I was sure it could be done. The training began with conviction. We are indeed fragile human beings. Within a a few short weeks I had managed to do over a 35 mile ride or two and then injuryed a knee landing myself in physical therapy, putting the Tahoe Ride on hold. On June 3rd, 2007 I cheered on the rest of my Team in Training members, knowing they would cross the finish line .And, indeed they not only did, but inspired me.
My time would come in September for the Peach of the Century Ride. With another great TNT Team we trained hard, raised lots of funds for cancer research and all managed to cross the finish line.
But .. the ride is not over, nor is the need for contributions to cancer research any less.
Inspired by some great TNT members, and some incredible cancer survivors and honorees, I've begun some serious training to ride those 100 miles around Lake Tahoe this June, Each Saturday, rain or shine, our team will be out pedaling our bikes, training. During this training process I will also be fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Team in Training is the biggest fundraiser for LLS. So many people have suffered from blood cancers, and our mission is to bring this problem to an end. You can help out by donating to the cause today right here on this website. Many, children and adults alike, count on you and your monetary contribution. They live hopeful and determined lives - determined to live each day positively, and hopeful that medical science will be there for them. Perhaps you've known people like Jason. Donate in their memory today.
In the months ahead, I will be training hard to ride 100 miles to honor the lives of cancer victims - both those very much alive, and those like Jason in our hearts. If you have someone you know who has struggled with this cancer, please let me know of him or her and his or her story. Not only will I wear a bracelet for them, but will also feature them in future newsletter and web page updates.
Remember, I will do the hard work of training in the days and months ahead, rain or shine and will ride those 100 plus miles, but your monetary contribution is extremely important and needed. Lives of kids and adults alike count on us.
Visit my web page frequently to view updates on my training and fundraising progress. Together we can impact the lives of those with cancer.
Thank you for your support and contribution. If you would rather send a check rather than using the online method here on this site, Email Me and I will send you my mailing address.
Oh, by the way ... plan on joining me and my contributors with a special victory barbeque in June.
