We have joined the Team In Training program for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help raise funds to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma. We are also going to run a half marathon (13.1 miles) and a marathon (26.2 miles!) to bring awareness to leukemia and blood cancers.
Every 5 minutes, someone learns they have leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, or myeloma. Leukemia and lymphoma are the leading fatal cancers in young women and men under the age of 20, but truly blood cancers have no respect for one's rage, age, or gender. Sadly, too many of us have known someone who has lost a loved one to leukemia or been affected by blood cancers.
We have each pledged to raise $3,500 ($7,000 total) for research and will run the Oklahoma City Memorial Half Marathon on April 27, 2008 in Oklahoma City, and the Rock 'N' Roll Marathon in San Diego, California on June 1, 2008.
We are doing this for many reason: because we have lost dear friends to cancer; because a friend's brother died of leukemia; a friend's father has leukemia, a friend's neighbor boy recently died of leukemia; and because of our Honored Hero, Camden.
Our sweet Honored Hero Camden, who has been in remission since his bone marrow transplant a couple of years ago, is having to have some serious tests run. He just has not been acting like himself and been struggling with headaches. Some of these symptoms have doctors concerned, so they are running tests to make sure that there has not been a relapse. Please keep this precious little boy and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
